The world of cheating seems to be growing bigger and wider by the day as many more people break their vows and commitments to their partners for either a one-time entanglement or a long-term affair.

I mean, it’s so bad that people now believe and make laughable blanket statements such as “all men cheat” or “all women cheat.”

This generation is usually called the “woke generation,” and I think that term is derived from the fact that no generation in the past has been as aware and exposed as ours.

A lot has changed due to exposure, and one area that this has significantly impacted is relationships and marriages.

My grand aunt used to say that technology is this generation’s greatest blessing but also its greatest curse.
No doubt, access to technology is another factor responsible for increased cheating.
How technology influences relationships and marriages are numerous; from social media influence that projects the wrong idea of marriage to many people and makes them compare their real relationships to curated and idealized Instagram couples.
To new apps and platforms that make affairs and secrecy convenient and tempting.

There was a time when saying “I’m married” or “I’m in a relationship” was enough to ward off people who made advances at you.

There are many lingering issues and past grievances in marriages these days that make couples opt for divorce or serve as a breeding ground for infidelity.
One thing is certain, and it is that whatever is responsible for this increased divorce rate is also responsible for the increased cheating.
Because nobody leaves a good marriage and no normal person also cheats in a good marriage.

More people are battling with mental health issues by the day.
These high levels of stress, depression, anxiety, etc, have a ripple effect.
When people don’t handle it the right way, they can get more consumed in it, and some individuals resort to cheating as a coping mechanism.

Since there is no outlined and specific repercussion for cheating in most societies, the onus now lies on individuals to make their decisions.
Many people choose to cheat because they lack personal integrity.
